The 2025 Gayming Awards Were a Celebration of Queer Power, Pixel by Pixel
Earlier this month, Gayming Magazine hosted the 2025 Gayming Awards in the heart of West Hollywood, taking over the iconic Abbey to celebrate the LGBTQ+ creators, characters, and stories shaping video games and geek media. It was an evening of glitter, joy, and genuine recognition for the people pushing queer representation forward—both on-screen and behind the scenes.
The show, hosted by drag icon and Twitch streamer DEERE alongside columnist Milady Confetti, was streamed exclusively on WOW Presents Plus. And the guest list? An electric mix of gaming professionals, queer icons, and celebrity advocates from across the entertainment spectrum. The red carpet was a who’s-who of LGBTQ+ excellence, with appearances by Hazbin Hotel’s Brandon Rogers, Borderlands voice actor Ciarán Strange, RuPaul’s Drag Race royalty Farrah Moan, and Arcane writer Amanda Overton.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Levels Up
One of the night’s biggest winners was BioWare’s highly anticipated Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which not only claimed Game of the Year, but also earned Best LGBTQ+ Character for its customizable protagonist, Rook. The win was more than just another feather in BioWare’s cap—it was a testament to how far representation in gaming has come, and how much it matters when players see themselves reflected in the stories they love.
This same title also picked up Outstanding Video Game at GLAAD’s 36th Media Awards earlier this year, reinforcing its cultural weight and fan-driven momentum. Queer gamers have long been fans of the Dragon Age series for its inclusive writing, and The Veilguard feels like a culmination of those years of community feedback and love.

From Geek Entertainment to Indie Gems
On the TV side, Arcane: Season 2 walked away with LGBTQ+ Geek Entertainment of the Year, beating out fierce contenders like Hazbin Hotel, Heartstopper, and Interview with the Vampire. It’s a powerful win for a show that’s managed to combine high fantasy aesthetics with layered character work and quietly radical queer subtext.
And for indie lovers, the heartwarming platformer Kitsune Tails took home Best LGBTQ+ Indie Game, a reminder that inclusive storytelling doesn’t have to come from a AAA budget to have deep emotional impact.
Honoring Icons, Elevating Voices
One of the most emotional moments of the night came with the presentation of the Gayming Icon Award to Rebecca Heineman. A true industry pioneer, Heineman’s career spans decades—from becoming the first national video game champion to founding Interplay and coming out as a trans woman in 2003. Her legacy is a reminder that queer folks have always been here—innovating, designing, leading—and her recognition felt both overdue and beautifully timed.
The awards also spotlighted up-and-coming creators with the LGBTQ+ Streamer Rising Star Class, a Gayming Magazine initiative to elevate fresh queer talent in streaming. This year’s class included BoyeFran, Bvssykatdoll, Mynxie666, and WillJinkies—each of them expanding visibility and community in digital spaces where connection matters most.
Pearl Teese was named LGBTQ+ Content Creator of the Year, honoring her work as a trans gamer, advocate, and all-around powerhouse voice in the gaming space.
